HISTORY OF DEPARTMENT OF STATISTICS

The Statistics Study Program of Universitas Islam Indonesia (SSP-UII) was registered in 1996. It is the first study program established in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) to fulfill the need of scientist undergraduates in supporting the National Development. The Statistics Study Program has been accredited “A” as defined in BAN-PT No.3909/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/VII/2020. This accreditation status is valid until July 14, 2025. There are 19 permanent educative staff at SSP-UII. One lecturer is already a professor, four lecturers have a doctorate, one lecturer is currently pursuing a doctoral program, and thirteen lecturers have a master’s degree. The learning process in the Statistics Study Program is supported by:

  1. Business, Industrial and Social Statistics laboratory,
  2. Disaster Management Statistics laboratory, and
  3. Data Mining laboratory.

In 2016 the Statistics Study Program held a Data Science Weekend (DSW) attended by more than 60 industries engaged in various fields. This event included a conference, competition, workshop, showcase, and so on. The success of this event has made the Statistics Study Program known in the industrial world. The invited speakers were Amr Awadallah, the CEO of Cloudera and Tayler Akidau, a software engineer in Google. Many startup practitioners in Indonesia such as Gojek, pinjam.co.id, pegi-pegi.com, and Traveloka were also presented at this event.

As of August 2018, the SSP-UII has graduated as many as 754 statistics graduates. Based on the alumni’s tracer study, the average waiting time of the statistics graduate to get the first job is 3.8 months after graduation. On top of that, some students have been accepted into a company/enterprise before graduation. The alumni have worked either in government bureaus or private institutions. The government bureaus in which alumni work include Statistics Indonesia (BPS), the Education Quality Assurance Institute (LPMP), the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu), the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag), the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub), the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemdikbud), the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration (Kemenakertrans), the Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (BAPETEN), Regional Development Planning Agency (Bapedda), National Narcotics Agency (BNN), the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK), the General Election Commission (KPU), Tax Directorate General, BKD, Provincial Government (Pemprov), Local Government (Pemda), Jakarta Smart City, higher education, mining, banking, insurance companies, consulting institutions, state universities, and other industries.  Meanwhile, private institutions include Go-jek, MNC TV, RCTI, Metro TV, Bank Danamon, PT Cipta TPI, PT Garuda Indonesia, PT Rajawali Citra Indonesia, Detik.com, PT Emerio Corporation, PT the Nielsen, PT Vale Indonesia Tbk, PT Gerbang Sarana Baja, PT Teletama Arta Mandiri, PT M, Netherlands Maritime Institute of Technology, Eka Hospital Hospital and so on.
